Malaysia Tour Packages: What Indians Need to Know in 2026

The lack of noise for countries like Thailand or even Bali is one of the factors to focus on. Kuala Lumpur has a real city infrastructure and a variety of cuisine that surprises beyond expectations. Penang is among the greatest destinations to taste cuisine not only in Malaysia but also in Southeast Asia. Langkawi boasts beautiful beaches where you may sit and enjoy peace without somebody coming up to offer you something every minute. The country has its rainforests, tea plantations in the mountains, islands, and colonial cities in just a few kilometers' distance from each other.

This is what you need to know before booking your trip: visa conditions, destinations covered by Malaysia tour packages, and financial issues.

Entry: MDAC and Visa Free Entry

Indian citizens can enter Malaysia visa-free for a period of 30 days. There is no need for an application process, payment, or any other documents before departure.

But what is required is the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card. It is an online registration done free of charge within three days before arriving at the airport. This includes details such as passport information, flight number, hotel details, etc. It takes around five minutes to complete on the online portal. While there is no restriction regarding missing it, immigration lines tend to become long without it.

Where Malaysia Holiday Packages Go

Kuala Lumpur

Every Malaysia tour package starts right here, and Kuala Lumpur deserves it. The 170-meter bridge between the Petronas Twin Towers is still functional and will make one realize just how he is standing among the tallest structures on Earth. The viewing deck in the morning tends to be booked out, so make sure you book early.

The Batu Caves are 13 kilometers from the city center. It is an elaborate Hindu temple built in limestone caves, with 272 painted steps leading up to the temples. There are always some people worshiping, not a performance for the tourists. The large golden colour statue of Murugan at the foot of the steps stands at a height of 43 meters.

Jalan Alor at night is the food street you need for any Malaysia holiday package. Barbecue stingray, char kway teow, satay, and cool sugarcane juice are all served at open-air food stalls from about 5 PM onwards. The street where you can eat at one stall, go twenty meters, and eat another meal without any guilt.

Sunway Lagoon is good for families with kids. You get a water park, fun rides, and a zoo in one place in Petaling Jaya. One needs a whole day for this park.

Staying two nights in Kuala Lumpur takes care of the basic tour. Three is better.

Genting Highlands and the Awana SkyWay

A little less than an hour’s drive from KL, Genting Highlands lies in the highlands at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level. This means that it’s going to be much cooler than the city below and it makes sense for anyone interested in visiting because of the obvious climate difference. The trip to Genting Highlands via the Awana SkyWay gondola goes for eight kilometers through the hills and trees and is more impressive compared to other cable rides in the whole Southeast Asia region.

Penang and George Town

Penang City is what most travelers to Malaysia who have previously visited the country recommend spending more time on.

The heritage city, George Town, is the old part of town with World Heritage recognition by UNESCO. Most of the shophouses are still standing in the same shape they were originally built, and the street art that Penang is famous for is done specifically on walls in certain parts of the heritage city, not random graffiti.

The Penang street food is the main reason behind people visiting this place again. Food made after being prepared by a chef who prepares this same food for the last four decades at one and the same location would have its own unique taste, unlike any other similar food found anywhere else in the country. The other dishes that are worth searching out here include asam laksa, Penang hokkien mee, and cendol. Most Malaysia holiday packages would include a food tour.

Cameron Highlands

Cameron Highlands is located about three hours to the north of Kuala Lumpur at a height of about 1,500 meters. The tea plantations here are fully functional; BOH Tea being the biggest. BOH Tea takes visitors round their tea plantations, provides tea factory tours and has a café built on top of the plantation. A little ridiculous, but well worth it!

It's difficult to describe the Mossy Forest at Gunung Brinchang. This is a raised boardwalk through the clouds that takes you through cloud forest where the plants, branches and rocks here are completely coated with moss, ferns and insect eating plants. The light through the clouds creates a surreal effect all along. Boardwalk for two hours and road journey to get to the top for one hour.

People who miss out on visiting Cameron Highlands regret not having done so later on in life. And that is no exaggeration!

Langkawi

Langkawi comprises 99 islands, located in the northwestern part of the country. The largest island offers you its tropical beaches, virgin jungle, and duty-free shopping of alcohol, chocolates, and cigarettes at cheap prices which allow most visitors to plan their bags in anticipation of buying souvenirs back home.

Langkawi SkyBridge represents a pedestrian walkway bridge, measuring 125 meters long and curved. It hangs from a solitary pylon at the height of 700 meters above the rainforest. Langkawi Cable Car transports visitors to the top, leaving from Oriental Village. From there you can have views reaching into Thailand.

The list of Langkawi Island tours from the jetty operates all year round: island hopping by speedboat, kayak trips through limestone caves along the river of mangroves, and bird watching with the brahminy kite dropping down from the sky to snatch chickens floating in the water near your boat. Langkawi makes sense only as the last leg of the West Coast Malaysian tour package.

Malacca

Malacca is two hours south of Kuala Lumpur and represents the most condensed experience of Malaysian colonial heritage available in one stop. The presence of Dutch, Portuguese, and British architecture all within walking distance of each other. On weekends at Jonker Street, there is a night market open until midnight and full of antiques, foods, and more ceramics than anyone could need.

With an experienced guide, touring the historical sites of Malacca can be done in six hours. This includes visits to Christ Church, A Famosa, and the Stadthuys. Most Malaysia tour packages include a day trip from Kuala Lumpur, which is correct.

Perhentian Islands

Perhentian Islands are located along the northeastern coast. The criteria for good Perhentian Islands snorkeling are 15 to 20 meters visibility and coral reefs untouched by resort tourism development. Simple accommodation such as longhouses, fan houses, meals at the cafe of the diving shop will be provided. Coral reef is the highlight.

The time limit is also important; from March to October only. Outside this period, the east coast will have monsoons and most places will be closed. In any tour packages to Malaysia, one must consider this restriction.

Sabah and Borneo

It would be safe to say that Sabah ecotourism and Borneo wildlife tours belong in a category of their own in Malaysia. Inland, along the Kinabatangan River, visitors will find themselves face-to-face with proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, and hornbills in the jungle rather than in captivity. Tours are held twice a day as the animals go out to the river banks. Over at Sandakan, the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre allows a morning and afternoon feeding of rehabilitated orangutans as they come down from the trees. Watching an orangutan solve a puzzle left by the caretakers for it is certainly more interesting than anything else that will be done during a Malaysia holiday package.

A permit must be obtained for Mount Kinabalu hiking tour. At 4,095 meters high, it can be accomplished within two days, one for climbing to Laban Rata, and the next day for reaching the summit while watching the sunrise. While this is basically a walking trip, there will still be altitude sickness for those unaccustomed to heights.

Malaysia tour packages from India normally do not include Sabah by default. Always make sure that your operator includes Sabah as an additional leg in case you go there for 10 days or more.

Package Costs

The budget Malaysia tour packages for five nights for Malaysia starting from major cities in India include visits to Kuala Lumpur and Penang by plane, 3-star hotels, and airport transfers, which cost from Rs. 38,000 to Rs. 58,000 per person.

Cultural heritage tours that include visits to George Town UNESCO site, Malacca, Batu Caves, and Cameron Highlands' tea gardens can work very well in a 7-8 day Malaysia tour with a guide. Medium-priced options will cost from Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 90,000 per person.

Some luxury properties that tourists should keep in mind: Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur overlooks Petronas Twin Towers, The Datai at Langkawi is one of the best jungle & beach resorts in the area, and Gayana Eco Resort in Sabah stands on stilted wooden platforms overlooking the marine park on Gaya Island.
